Sustainable Travel Agency

A major acheivement for Travel.Bhutan! We are honored to be the First Travel Agency in Bhutan to obtained the WSO - Friend of the Sea/Friend of the Earth Certification for Sustainable Travel Agency.

World Sustainability Organization (WSO), with a rich history dating back to 1990, is a global pioneer in promoting sustainable practices across various industries. Their renowned certifications, Friend of the Sea (FOS) and Friend of the Earth (FOE) have become symbols of trust and integrity, signifying products and services that meet rigorous environmental and ethical standards. From dolphin-safe fishing initiatives to sustainable agriculture and beyond, WSO has certified over 1,500 companies worldwide, including some of the most reputable names in retail and hospitality. The WSO certification standard requires compliance with several requirements, including: Animal welfare, Social accountability, Waste management and Energy management.

Planting trees with the World Sustainability Foundation (WSF): Travel.Bhutan joins the 1 Guest 1 Tree Planted project of the WSF, a non-profit organization that works to defend marine and terrestrial biodiversity. WSF has developed and supported more than 40 conservation and awareness projects in more than 40 countries around the world; its final goal is to protect endangered species and ecosystems threatened by humans, and support local communities. Environmental Commitments
  • We live responsible tours and journeys. Our itinaries and experiences are all curated for minimum impact to the environment and maximum value to the communities.
  • We consciously only partner with hotels and resorts that are similarly environmentally responsible.
  • We are a proud signatory of the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative led by the United Nations Environment Programme and the World Tourism Organization. We passionately endrose and adhere to the shared common goals.
Community and Social Commitments
  • We commit 5% of all our earnings to support the livelihood of young monks and the cultural preservation at the Gateychen Monastery, a Buddhist monastery in the Peling Tradition, located in Phobjikha.
  • We are an agency founded and led by women. We are committed to recruiting women on first priority basis and actively contributing to woman empowerment activities.
